FAQ
-
A Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is a type of vehicle that typically includes rugged styling and off-roading capability through features like AWD, off-road traction control, and a high ground clearance. These features make SUVs ideal for outdoor adventures or driving in tough conditions like snow, ice, or mud.26 In addition to off-road features, SUVs are often associated with a large cargo area and passenger seating which makes them great for road trips or as a family vehicle.
-
A crossover SUV, also known as a “crossover” or “Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV)”, is a type of vehicle with the seating and cargo capabilities of an SUV, but with improved responsive handling and fuel efficiency that’s closer to a car. As a result, crossover SUVs are generally seen as a “crossover” between SUVs and cars that offers the best of both worlds. Crossover SUVs are generally less suited for going off-road than SUVs, though some models offer AWD and other features ideal for outdoor adventures and inclement conditions.26
-
The primary difference between SUVs and CUVs is that SUVs are typically built on a body-on-frame chassis, while CUVs use a unibody frame from a car chassis. SUVs are usually heavier and feature more off-roading capabilities, while CUVs tend to be lighter with improved handling and fuel efficiency which makes them more suited for urban and city driving. Vehicles may also be classified as an SUV based on the inclusion of third-row seating.
-
An SUV is likely a better option if you plan to do a lot of off-road driving, or will frequently be driving in difficult conditions like snow, ice, or mud.26 A CUV is more suitable if you will mostly be driving in the city or residential areas, with occasional off-roading. The nimble handling of a CUV will make the vehicle easy to maneuver, and you may still be able to go off-road when needed.

The CX-90 (and PHEV version) is Mazda’s largest SUV, with three-rows and seating configurations for up to eight passengers.27 The vehicle offers up to 75.2 cubic feet of cargo space with all rear seats folded down or 15.9 cubic feet behind the third-row seats.28
-
Mazda has two SUVs with three-row seating: the CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle), which can accommodate up to 8 people.27
-
Mazda offers two hybrid SUVs in its lineup: the Mild Hybrid CX-90 3.3 Turbo and Turbo S and the CX-90 PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle). The CX-90 utilizes regenerative braking to capture kinetic energy that’s converted to electricity to charge its battery. Which allows the electric motor to support the turbo engine for longer periods.
Additionally, the CX-90 PHEV can be plugged in to recharge its larger battery pack. The CX-90 PHEV’s battery can be charged using a Level 2 charger in 2.5 hours or less23and offers 26-miles of all-electric range or 490-miles of total range using the combustion engine and electric motor together.22
